As we reflect on the tragic event in Enugu last weekend, where popular Ogene musician Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, known as Igbo-Jah, was fatally shot by a police officer, I am filled with deep sadness and profound disappointment over yet another instance of police brutality that has claimed an innocent life.
This tragic event painfully echoes my long-standing warnings about unchecked abuses within our security forces. Sadly, my own experiences—marked by unjustified attacks on my home and community—have shown that these issues are not isolated but part of a broader pattern of impunity.
While I commiserate with the family of the deceased, I call for a thorough, transparent investigation into this terrible event and for those responsible to be held accountable. Such actions have no place in a society that values justice and the dignity of human life.
