It is no more news that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the uncompromising leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra(IPOB) was kidnapped from Kenya, tortured, extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria and has been unjustly incarcerated against every court orders which declared him innocent of every accusations by Nigeria. This prolonged unjust detention in Nigeria’s Department Of Secret Service’s(DSS) solitary confinement has been followed by the government with all manner of destructive plots and actions against the IPOB leader and his self-determination movement. As even released recently by InterSociety, Nigeria’s leading human rights group, these onslaughts of the Nigeria government has resulted to the ocean of innocent blood flowing currently in the east. This evils of the government is equally not unconnected unanswered questions of political, judicial, and economic injustice melted on Biafran nations of Igbo, Ijaw, Ibibio, Anang, Urhobo, Isoko, Itsekiri, Igodomigo, Igala, Agatu, Ogoni etc who are scattered across the thirteen states in south east, south south, lower Kogi and lower Benue respectively.
Also recall that Ndi-Igbo, Kanu’s people whom he is fighting for have also called for his release in line with the stipulations of justice and the legal declarations on his case, but the government keeps manipulating things.
Suddenly, after many months, we are now being informed by Kanu’s lawyer that the court is demanding that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s appears in court on February 10th, 2025.
So, as the IPOB leader appears in Justice Binta Nyanko’s court this morning, February 10th 2025, the searchlight of global justice focuses on Nigeria, following the unabated genocide currently going on in the same Biafraland, the people Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is agitating for their freedom.
As expected, Justice Binta Nyanko will surely be present in her court room this morning, but the question that will be in the minds of legal luminaries and conscious people all over the world would be; first, will she be blindfolded to the political correctness and anti-Igbo problem bedeviling Nigerian judiciary or will she as unbiased umpire be ready to deliver a balanced judgement that will redeem the already battered image of Nigerian judiciary which has become a caricature in the eyes of the outside world who are noticing the impunity, abuse of court processes and fragrant disregard to the rule of law written all over a Nigerian lady of justice’s forehead.
Secondly, every people of conscience will definitely be wondering how a state that claims to be practicing democracy violate international treaties they are signatory to at the UN, African Union, ECOWAS levels, violate their own laws and that of British and Kenya by kidnapping a British citizen on transit, dehumanized, tortured, blindfolded and bundled him down to Nigeria, subjected him to several trials where three different judgements were ruled in his favor; including discharged and acquitted which the government turned around to remove the honorable juris who administered justice without fear and favor, then returns the case to same court to get a stay of execution order restraining the defendant from his fundamental human right to freedom, instead of discussing counter claims, damages or compensation?
Those familia with this case will be wondering whether Madam Nyako at this point will be bold and courageous enough to stand on the part of justice like those Appellate Court Judges who discharged and acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu earlier because Nigeria lacks evidence of wrong against him.
The world watches to see what Justice Nyako will judge, seeing that it is already established by the supreme Court in December 2023, that the government was wrong to had invaded Nnamdi Kanu’s country home at Afaraukwu Ibeku by the military for Operation Python dance, for kidnapping and torturing him at Kenya and the illegal means through which he was brought back to Nigeria. The apex court also in her wisdom admitted that it was absolutely wrong to had revoked the bail he was enjoying under the law since he was chased out of the country owning to the military invasion and can not be said to had jumped bail.
We also recall the Justice Binta Nyako recused herself earlier from the case, as demanded by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but unfortunately, every one is watching to see what the executive highjacked judiciary system of Nigeria will do this morning? Will they continue with their usual travesty and toil the part of ridicule which they have become synonymous with, or will they give justice, equity and fair play a chance?
My personal concern about this case and those who have refused to stick to the discharge and acquitted status which absorbs the IPOB leader of any unconstitutional trials back to back, is that Biafran youths will not entertain any funny court conviction or sentencing of any magnitude nor join any clemency soliciting party to beg Tinubu for mercy, in expense of the Biafran people’s noble and just call for a UN organized referendum to decide whether the people are still interested in this unhabitable expired and unfair union put together by an imperialist who never factored the people’s interest or concerns at any stage of the abusive and unprofitable marriage.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s opinion that no body should beg for his release tells all you need to know about this case, that he has no case what soever to answer because the highest court in the land pronounced the actual fair judgement, setting him free.
The government has held Nnamdi Kanu unjustly for over three years as a political prisoner, and all eyes are on the attorney general of the federation to do the needful, squash the case and unconditionally release the already freed man.
Just as Trump came back to White House and the clouds of a world war began to disappear in many threatened countries, the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will bring to an abrupt end the senseless clindenstal ethnic cleansing currently going on in Igbo land in a guise to dissuade Biafran Agitation.
