Analytical Reviews That Shows How Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Siblings Betrayed Him for Personal Gain Mon. 23rd Feb. 2026

It is widely known that on June 28, 2021, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja Nigeria’s capital , marking the beginning of a long legal battle . However, what many do not realize is that several “unseen hands” were responsible for his predicament. Sadly, it appears these hands belonged to his own family; evidence proofs his siblings and in-laws contributed in his illegal detention and his illegal Imprisonment by Federal government of Nigeria . There comes a time when someone must speak up.

Firstly, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s siblings were well aware that he was a high-profile target. Miyetti Allah had even placed a bounty of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira) on his head. Despite this, they lured him to Kenya. My findings indicate that the IPOB leadership (DOS) had specifically instructed MNK not to enter Africa due to the continent’s prevailing lawlessness. Unfortunately, MNK ignored this advice and traveled to Africa without informing the rest of the IPOB leadership the DOS, a move facilitated by his siblings.

MNK knew the DOS was protecting him and would not support a trip to Africa, so he decided to keep his journey a secret. He stayed in Kenya for weeks , broadcasting from there so that no one would notice his change in environment. During this time, his siblings and in-laws remained in constant communication with him and knew exactly where he was staying. After several weeks, his location was compromised. The questions remain: How, why, and by whom? These questions are best answered by his family, as they were the only individuals who knew his whereabouts.

The compromise of his location led to his abduction by Kenyan authorities, who illegally detained and tortured him for one week before handing him over to Nigerian security forces. MNK spent eight days in secret detention. During this time, the IPOB leadership remained unaware of his situation because he had never informed them of his trip. However, when members of the DOS became worried after failing to reach him, they contacted his family.

Kanunta Kanu, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, claimed that MNK was “fine” and was “praying on the mountain.” In reality, he knew exactly what his brother was going through. Had he revealed the truth immediately, IPOB could have taken steps to prevent the illegal rendition.

Following the extraordinary rendition, while Kanu was battling in court, these same family members attempted to infiltrate the IPOB leadership structure. They introduced “strange individuals” and pressured MNK to add them to the leadership. They brought forward individuals expelled in IPOB like Madam Bridget, Madam Onyibo and other individuals with questionable character. They also pressured Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to hand Radio Biafra over to Simon Ekpa, whose actions later contributed to the ordeals of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. When the DOS refused to endorse these individuals to avoid contamination , the family began orchestrating blackmail against the leadership.

These individuals began publicly accusing the DOS of betraying and “selling” Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Kanunta Kanu and his siblings knew these were lies; they knew the DOS did not know MNK’s location until after his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria . Yet, they never revealed the truth . Instead, they stayed silent, masterminded all kinds of blackmail against DOS.

At a point when the Nigerian unjustified law system began to work against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the time when actions were needed to pressure them, the IPOB leadership announced a Monday sit-at-home. This measure became paramount based on the fact that IPOB had always engaged in civil disobedience to drive home our quests. But, these siblings had another plan. They persuaded MNK to halt the sit-at-home after collecting money from politicians who felt threatened by the sit-at home declaration. These politicians had contacted the then spokesperson for IPOB Emma Powerful who outrightly declined their monetary offer. The siblings couldn’t bear to loose such amount, hence the reason Kanunta Kanu quickly wrote a press statement deciding that the sit-at-home had been cancelled.

After their attempt to basterdize the sit-at-home order, IPOB decided to go to the streets in a peaceful protest against the illegal trial and detention of their leader, but unfortunately, were attacked by blood sucking security personnel of the Nigerian forces. The attack resulted to several casualties including the de@th of many IPOB members. Instead of holding the authorities accountable, the siblings decided to create memes and made caricatures of people who kpaied in the process of protesting against the detention of their brother. They went further with their blackmail, posting and revealing photos and details of some people who had participated in the protest stating that they were working with the DOS to sabotage Biafrans. One will think they cared, but a reasonable person will only see betrayal and desperations to blackmail the leadership just for their selfish gain.

They had succeeded in keeping Mazi Nnamdi Kanu away, already creating chaos in the leadership structure, so they moved to their next step which is the financial motivations and the deliberate attempts to sideline the legal team and the IPOB leadership for their own enrichment.

The most heartbreaking aspect of this betrayal is the financial exploitation of the movement. While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu languished in detention, certain siblings saw an opportunity to turn his ordeal into a business. Evidence proved that they began soliciting “legal funds” and “support donations” from the Diaspora, much of which never reached welfare of the struggle.

This is after succeeding in hijacking IPOB’s funds by influencing the IPOB financial secretary, Nnennaya Anya. They personalised the IPOB funds meant to finance the struggle. Never satisfied, they started going from one politician to another, asking for legal funds for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. These siblings went as far as agreeing a deal with Seyi Tinubu, the son of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. All these happened without the knowledge of the IPOB leadership, meanwhile these deals were agreed with the name of IPOB.

By bypassing the established financial structures of the DOS, these individuals turned the IPOB leader’s freedom into a bargaining chip for personal wealth. They began to task Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s visitors by requesting they pay some specific amount of money before they could visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This is another proof that their interest was never his release, but the enrichment of their own pockets.

A significant turning point occurred when the family began interfering with the professional legal team. Instead of cooperating with the world-class lawyers such as Barrister Mike Ozokomeh SAN assigned to the case, the siblings began introducing “briefcase lawyers” and unauthorized intermediaries. They immediately cooked up another round of blackmail against the genuine lawyer who handed Mazi Nnamdi Kanu an appeal court victory ; this dangerous move facilitated the sacking of the lawyer by MNK.

They attempted to dictate legal strategy without having any legal background, often creating confusion that delayed court proceedings. By sowing discord between the lawyers and the leadership, they ensured that the legal battle became messy and expensive, further draining the movement’s resources while they remained the primary points of contact for “donations.”

These siblings began a propaganda campaign claiming that “blood is thicker than water.” They argued that the family should have more control over IPOB than the DOS. However, the movement belongs to the people, not a DYNASTY. By attempting to privatize a global struggle, they effectively ISOLATED Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from his most loyal supporters. They preferred a weakened, detained MNK whom they could “represent” to the world, rather than a free MNK who would hold them accountable for their actions. This attempt to hijack the leadership structure for family gain is a proof of betrayal.

There are mounting reports that some of these siblings held secret meetings with entities known to be hostile to the movement. The goal? To negotiate a “soft landing” that benefited the family financially while leaving the followers of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the dark.
By playing both sides pretending to be activists by day while negotiating as private contractors by night they have committed the ultimate sin against the Biafran people. They chose luxury in the West over the liberty of their brother and his followers.
