FIRST NIGERIA FOOTBALL TEAM

1st official picture of First Nigerian national football team as the team arrived Liverpool on Monday August 29-1949. The Nigerian Football team was originally called the “Red Devils” It is also worthy of note that veteran journalist Peter Osugo is credited as the person who changed the National football team from the Red Devils given by Harriet Allen in 1958 to the Green Eagles in 1961 Harriet Allen was the wife of NFA secretary Reginald Allen who later became the chairman and one of the founders of the Nigerian Football Supporters Association in 1958. The name of the team was again changed in 1988 by Vice President Augustus Aikhomu from Green Eagles 🦅 to Super Eagles when the team won a Silver medal in Morocco 🇲🇦
