In line with the Court-Ordered guideline, the legal team conducted our routine visit to our indefatigable Client - Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu today at the DSS Headquarters Abuja, where Onyendu is still being held in solitary confinement for over 15 months.
Today’s visit witnessed a fair atmosphere outside the usual status-quo. I spent quality time to confere with Onyendu on the level of the DSS' response to his medical needs, and improvement recorded so far, if any.
I carefully observed from our heart-to-heart discussion that following our ferocious efforts in calling out the DSS, and consequently, exposing their lackadaisical attitude towards providing the needed medical attention for Onyendu, the public condemnation and outcry that trailed their action and/or inaction, the DSS eventually upgraded their trial-and-error method by patronising H-Medix Pharmacy.
Even though the improvisation is providing temporary relief to Onyendu, the fact remains that the DSS is gravely lacking in adequate medical facility to contain Onyendu’s debilitating health condition. Hence, we are requesting for Onyendu’s unconditional release to enable us to provide for his medical needs. We are very hopeful that his imminent freedom will give us every opportunity to expeditiously address his deteriorating health condition.
Onyendu specifically directed me to extend his heartfelt appreciation to you all, people of goodwill, and particularly to Ezigbo UmuChineke, who in one accord demanded for his unconditional release, and proceeded to call out the DSS during this life-threatening period, to treat his medical care with every deserving circumspection, and seriousness it demanded. Onyendu is profoundly grateful, at least for the first time in a long while, I saw Onyendu burst into laughter during our chit-chats. Onyendu is indeed, deeply grateful to you all.
On our part, we specially thank all Ezigbo UmuChineke, friends of Onyendu and well-wishers, who were profusely calling from time-to-time, to ascertain his level of improvement. Our defence team eminently led by an indefatigable man of letters – Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), is relentlessly pursuing the immediate and unconditional release of Onyendu. Be assured that it must surely end in praises, UmuChineke.
We shall continue to provide update on every development in Onyendu’s Court case and as earlier assured, we shall sufficiently notify you in good time once a date is fixed for Onyendu’s appearance in Court. We are still patiently awaiting the all-important judgment from the Court of Appeal which will happen anytime soon.
